Booking terms and conditions

The terms that apply when you book a trip with CHINATOUR.uk. Please read them before you pay a deposit; they set out what you pay, when, and what happens if plans change.

Your booking

These terms form the contract between you and CHINATOUR.uk. A booking is confirmed when we receive your deposit and send you written confirmation. The person making the booking must be 18 or over and accepts these terms on behalf of everyone travelling.

Deposit and balance

A deposit of 20% of the trip price confirms your booking and holds your hotels, transport and guides.

The balance is due 60 days before departure. If we do not receive it by then, we may treat the booking as cancelled and apply the charges set out below. All prices are per person, land only, and are confirmed in writing on your itinerary.

If you cancel

Cancellations must be in writing, and the date we receive your written notice sets the charges. Charges are a percentage of the total trip price.

  • More than 60 days before departure: your deposit is retained (20%).
  • 30 to 60 days before departure: 50% of the trip price.
  • 15 to 29 days before departure: 75% of the trip price.
  • 14 days or fewer before departure, or no-show: 100% of the trip price.

If you change your booking

Date and itinerary changes are possible, subject to availability. A change made more than 60 days before departure usually carries no fee beyond any difference in price. Closer to departure, airlines, rail and hotels may charge the full amount, which we pass on at cost.

Visas and travel documents

You are responsible for holding a valid passport, obtaining the correct visa for China and meeting any entry or transit requirements. We are happy to explain the process, but we cannot apply for a visa on your behalf, and we are not liable if you are refused entry or boarding. Check that your passport is valid for at least six months beyond your return date.

Insurance

You must have comprehensive travel insurance for the whole trip, covering medical treatment, repatriation and cancellation. We may ask to see proof before departure. We strongly recommend a policy that also covers the activities named in your itinerary.

Changes we make, and events beyond our control

We may occasionally change a hotel, a train, a guide or an activity. Where we do, we provide a substitute of equal or better standard, or refund the difference if that is not possible.

For events outside our control — extreme weather, natural events, strikes, civil unrest or government restrictions — we will do everything reasonable to keep the trip running, and where we cannot, we will discuss the alternatives with you. Refunds in these cases follow what we are able to recover from suppliers.

Our liability

We are responsible for arranging the services in your itinerary with reasonable care and skill. We are not liable for the acts of independent suppliers, or for loss caused by events beyond our control, except where the law does not allow that to be excluded. Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights.

Complaints

If something goes wrong, tell your guide or our office straight away so that we can put it right during the trip. If it is not resolved, email hello@joyotour.com within 28 days of your return, and we will respond within 14 days.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute will be handled by the courts of England and Wales.
